Chapter Eleven

Tyres

Clenching my teeth, it takes everything in my power to keep my anger from taking over at Rissa’s words. If her parents weren’t already dead or my own mother, who died at my own hands, I would kill them all over again.

Rissa knows about what my mother did to me, and I knew hers were strict, but I’m guessing they were worse than we thought, considering they allowed a bunch of men to beat the shit out of her. I don’t need her to tell me what all happened. I saw the scars last night and heard what she said about being buried alive in her own grave.

Fuck, just thinking about what she endured guts me.

“Rissa, look at me,” I command softly, wanting her eyes on me.

Slowly, Rissa lifts her head to do as I ask, and when she does, any anger I could be holding toward her vanishes at the anguish I see shadowing her eyes.

Motherfucker.

“You’re not a bad mother and you’ve done a damn good job where Ike’s concerned. He’s a good kid,” I murmur. I readjust us so that she’s sitting in my lap rather than standing next to the bed. I ignore the way my cock twitches as I straddle her over my legs.

Ike is downstairs watching a movie on the TV while Wren naps in the pack ‘n play in the living room. If it weren’t for him worrying about if his mom was okay, I would’ve let her continue to sleep.

Leaning my forehead into hers, I tighten my grip on her waist. “From now on, you need to know that you are not alone. I get and understand you did what you thought you had to, but you need to let me help now. You’re not your parents, and you aren’t my bitch of a mother. Don’t think you are either. Now before we go downstairs and you spend time with our son and meet Wren, I want you to know one thing.”

“What’s that?” she whispers.

“You’re mine,” I inform her. “You’ve always been mine and this time around, I’m not going to let you get away from me that easily. I swear anyone who tries to come between us this time around will feel my wrath like no other.”

“Ike—”I lift a hand to cover her mouth before she can say more.

“Another thing you need to stop doing is calling me Ike. I haven’t gone by that name in years. Everyone calls me Tyres,” I mutter.

“Tyres?” she whispers.

“Yeah.”

“Why do people call you Tyres?” she asks, causing me to grin.

“Because, Bluebell, I burn rubber like no other and continuously have to keep getting new tires for my bike,” I chuckle. This use to be true, but I haven’t had to do that in a few years.

“Oh,” she utters quietly once again.

“Yeah,” I say just as softly as she spoke. Pulling away from her, I meet her gaze and grin. “Now, let’s get you downstairs and fed. Today we’re hanging here while spending time together. When Wren wakes up from her nap, I’ll introduce you to her.
